Just came across this (regrettably silent) newsreel clip from 1950.

Amongst other operations, it shows R.A.F. Valettas engaged in supply and para drops, plus what must be Lincolns on a bombing run.

Hi Ipso Facto.
Your post took me back. I spent 6 months in Malaya with 617 Squadron. We were flying Canberra's, They could carry 9 x 1,000 pounders against the Lincoln's 250 pounders! We used datum bombing. The army Austers used to find cultivated patch in the jungle adjacent to which was the terr's camp. The army would set a flare off in the roof of the jungle, the Canberra's would line up going over the flare on a given compass course for a given count down in seconds. Nine Canberra's carrying 81 x 1,000 pounders could obliterate a square mile of jungle. The instant the bombs burst, the army would attack. Finis!

You should find a few interesting pictures in the Gallery if you use these 'search' words: either Malaya or Malaysia
